Homestead (n.)  Old English hamstede "home, town, village" from home + stead.  in U.S. usage, "A lot of land adequate for the maintenance of a family."  (1693)

Fern Dell Farm was established in 1853 by Shermen's ancestors.  The original deed documents the sale of 40 acres to Jeremiah Carroll for the sum of $40.00.

Shermen & Kaaren Anderson are renovating the farm-house to reveal the original, hand-planed log cabin.  Once a stock farm, it is now a hobby farm where they live, create art, and raise cats, dogs, chickens and sheep.  Their dream is to revive the farm and raise grass fed and organic beef, pork, and poultry.   In addition to growing produce for their family, they plan to corn for their bio-fuel furnace, & one day utilize the wind and sun for power.

Fern Dell Farm is a contributor to the Renewal Youth Garden's CSA.  Community Supported Agriculture programs create symbiotic relationships between community members who enjoy the many benefits of locally grown food and area farmers.

The Farm Blog documents the "hobby farm" adventure...our successes and failures as we experiment with alternative energy, organic gardening, raising sheep, chickens etc, and random thoughts and ideas.

Thank you for visiting,

Kaaren and Shermen
